South of the River London takes its name from the oldest excuse in this city: the one a cab driver gives you at midnight, through a half-open window, before pulling away.

The film industry in this city lives north of the water. Soho holds the edit suites and the money. Leicester Square holds the premieres. Cross the Thames and the Underground map goes thin and apologetic, and somewhere past Clapham the industry simply stops returning calls. Furzedown does not have a tube station. It has buses, a high street, and a lot of people making things anyway.

That is who this is for. Genre filmmakers who never got the meeting: horror, thriller, crime, science fiction, fantasy, and whatever you have built that refuses to sit still in one of those boxes. We are not interested in respectable. We are interested in the film that got made in a flat in Zone 3 because waiting for permission was going to take a decade.

The screening is in a living room on Thrale Road. Not a metaphor - an actual room, with actual sofas, on a street named after a brewer whose house up the road used to put up Samuel Johnson. Saturday afternoon, October, the light going early. Close enough to Halloween that the room will be in the mood.
